Rice

He finally got some rice! He kept trying to grab onto things...

...like the spoon and the camera. He's a little uncoordinated, don't want him to jab himself in the eye or something. He still getting used to the rice cereal.

What it is I do...

I do story boarding, the 3rd step. This is a basic basic basic breakdown of how we make CG animated films.

1. Once they find a good idea they hire a writer and a script is written.

2. In the meantime, visual development is designing characters and locations.

3. The story board artists will get script pages and the designs and draw every shot of the movie, including all of the acting and necessary lighting. This is the time when the director and throw in new ideas and toss out bad ideas. Things change a lot in this stage and the bulk of the time will be spent in this stage.

4. Once they finalize the story they move on to recording the "voice actors".

5. The "layout" department basically uses a virtual set and places the camera and characters in a virtual space to match the way the story boards look.

6. Finally, the animators will bring the characters to life with acting!

7. This next image includes loads of departments, people who do lighting, texturing and surfacing and character FX (clothing, hair, things attached to the character) and FX (water, fire, smoke, etc.) The scene looks pretty transformed.

Now imagine this process for every single shot in as film!

BTW, these are not from a movie I worked on, unfortunately. I work at a different studio ;)

Email Me

Where have I been? I didn't realize little kids have email now. Weird. What do they need it for. I could only think of one thing.

doh!

We stick him onto this play mat thing, with hanging doo-dads, and he starts rolling over and scooting and rolling, until he gets caught up...doh! At least he's moving around in some form.

Outfit: Four

I like taking these silly photos of her, she makes the funniest and most unexpected expressions. Although, fashion wise, you've only seen two pairs of shoes, two pairs of pants, and like two shirts. She apparently likes to wear the same things over and over.

open windows

If I open a window, the lighting looks so much better, more of a blue, then a yellow light.
